| Agricultural cooperatives find it difficult to forecast their interest costs and net income. If input and output prices are fixed, anticipatory hedging of future interest costs is appropriate. Banks for Cooperatives obtain funds in maturities longer than the three months of Treasury bills. Hence, anticipatory hedging of interest rates may require selling a "strip" of more than one Treasury bill futures contract. Adapting Peck's model of hedges against forecast error, hedge ratios generally exceed one-for-one, "naïve" hedging, with effectiveness generally above 95 percent. Hedges closed out just before a delivery date have the highest effectiveness. |

| A re-description is given of Taiwanaphis including Sensoriaphis Cottier, 1953 and Paracallipterus Raychaudhuri & A. K. Ghosh, 1964. The following new species are described: Taiwanaphis atrovirens spec. nov., presumably from Syzygium spec.; Taiwanaphis atuberculata spec. nov., from Syzygium lineatum (DC.) Merr. & Perry; Taiwanaphis memecyloni spec. nov., from Memecylon laevigatum Bl. and M. myrsinoides Bl.; Taiwanaphis montanicola spec. nov., from Syzygium racemosum (Bl.) DC, and Taiwanaphis pseudocaudata spec. nov., from Syzygium syzygioides (Miq.) Amsh. Keys are given to the alatae viviparae and their last larval stages of these species. |

| Apium repens, recorded for the last time in the Netherlands in 1961, was refound in 1983 at some localities in Zeeuwsch-Vlaanderen. In the past it occurred in four kinds of habitat: 1 wet pastures and banks along brooks, inundated in winter; 2 ditches at the fringe of peat areas; 3 wet dune slacks and 4 pastures along old creeks. From the first two kinds of habitat it has disappeared completely. At present one locality is known in the dune area (Schouwen, recorded in 1984). The other recent localities all belong to the fourth type, which is confined to Zeeuwsch-Vlaanderen. | Os aplicadores de herbicidas baseados em pavios de corda foram introducidos e largamente aceitos nos EUA a partir de 1978, devido a sua grande simplicidade, baixo custo operacional e economia do herbicida. Um protótipo fabricado com material inteiramente nacional, montado sobre duas rodas de bicicleta, tracionado pelo homem, tendo uma barra de 2 metros de comprimento, foi desenvolvido pelo departamento de defesa fitossanitária da Faculdade de Ciência Agrárias e Veterinárias de Jaboticabal - UNESP e submetido a um ensaio preliminar. | We show how an interseasonal pest control problem can be simplified to enable an intraseasonal model to be empirically applied, extending the range of application of the intraseasonal model. Three alternative economic thresholds are compared. The optimal solution requires repeated computations by the farmer to compute the profit maximizing dose, with a corresponding threshold, for each pest infestation. Two alternative decision rules require a single computation by the farmer for the threshold and dosage rate. An empirical illustration shows that, relative to the optimal solution which is computationally burdensome to the farmer, little net revenue is lost by using one of the thresholds based upon a simpler decision rule. |

| By taking into account salinity measurements and consequently mean residence time, current measurements, tidal computation with a 2-D model and wind induced currents provided by a 3-D model, a global diagram of residual flow in Seine Bay is given. Main patterns are exhibited: density currents in the eastern part of the bay, off the Seine Estuary, wind induced circulation, especially along the coast and over the Channels, and tidal residual patterns induced by topography. |

| Depuis quelques années, une diminution de l'abondance du lambi, Strombus gigas, en particulier celle des adusltes, et un rapprochement de la taille minimale des captures de celle du recrutement sont constatés en Martinique, comme dans d'autres îles de la Caraibe. Bien que le lambi soit une ressources relativement peu importante, sa place est privilégiée dans la gastronomie antillaise. Aussi, la production intérieure, difficile à évaluer (estimée à moins de 50T/an) est-elle insuffisante, entrainant des importations de lambi frais et congelé, de l'ordre de 300T/an. | Farm commodity programs devised over one-half century ago have outlived their usefulness. The structure of agriculture is different today than in 1933. Comparatively little excess labor remains in farming. The industry is capable of adjusting to change likely to develop over the next decade or so. Current problems in agriculture are the result of macroeconomic policies and commodity programs. The paper presents elements of a transition program to lower the government's role in supporting farm prices and incomes. |

| Over the next two decades a level of government involvement in agriculture comparable to that of the past two decades can be justified. Indigenous, cyclical, and secular characteristics of agriculture provide a strong defense of this position. Abandoning commodity programs would have adverse consequences. | Foram estudados parâmetros granulométricos (diâmetro médio, desvio padrio gráfico inclusivo, assimetria gráfica inclusiva e curtose) e a morfologia de três Areias Quartzosas da Bacia do Ribeirão do Lobo, situadas em diferentes posições de relevo nos municípios de I tirapina e Brotas (SP). Os três solos apresentam uniformidade granulométrica na fração areia; não havendo diferença entre perfis e nem entre horizontes de um mesmo perfil. Os solos estudados são morfologicamente semelhantes entre si, apresentando, normalmente, uma sucessão de horizontes A-C e ocorre, às vezes, um horizonte B incipiente, com duas camadas cromaticamente diferenciadas. |
